“Cutting ties”: take two

I read this post today while perusing old archives.  (In all my spare time.. Someone tell me — WHY am I not packing??!)  I wrote it in March, less than a month after moving to Japan, and I was so encouraged today to remember that time and think how much has changed.  Jesus has given me all that I need to be here — truly, it was testament to me that God comforts and carries us when our hearts are weak.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. (2 Cor 1:3-5)

What an amazing paradox — growing in our knowledge of God through the sufferings of this world, while at the same time experiencing His comfort and His gentle hand.
